Isn't anyone surprised that Bill Calahan still has a job? I would have thought that his firing would have been announced yesterday. Can Al seriously be considering keeping him?

I had a conversation on this topic over the weekend with several fans. I was the only one that thought that Bill deserved some consideration for the fantastic 2002 season, and the injury problems with this season. You can't win on a horse with three legs, and I think that is what you have when player after player go on IR. They dont even have to be starters, though many were. Another factor is that Al isn't that quick to admit mistakes (if he thinks that this was one).

The opposite argument is that Bill has lost the team... We'll know more about that when the gripe season goes into full swing next week.

You hit the nail on the head with Bill has lost his team. I think with that in mind Al doesn't have to admit he was wrong (if he thinks that this was one).

From what I heard what went on in the locker room before the San Diego game how can Bill still be an effective head coach with the Raiders. I heard it got really ugly.

There is also a story floating around that Woodson has said that the town isn't big enough for the two of them. "Bill goes or I go."

Seems more likely that the RAIDERS will be looking for a new head coach soon. I hope it's soon... Don't take too long Al.

I thought Bill's losing the team would be the reason he would get canned immediately. Perhaps Al doesn't like getting ultimatums from players. Anyway, do you have any thoughts on who you would like to see replace Callahan?

I try not to buy too much into "the coach has lost his players" slant, but in this case, it is true.

I also have disagreed with coaches being fired because if they are truly bad coaches, then they wouldn't get rehired. I still believe this to some extent...one owner's garbage can't be another's treasure. However, I do think that in many cases, it doesn't matter whether the guy can coach or not. He is just not the best fit there. Owners have a business to run, and with things a mess in Oakland, you have to worry about your business first. You have players that don't want to play in this situation and fans that are tired of the crap and don't want another year of it.

Callahan should be out, regardless of whether he can truly coach or not. That is clear cut to me. The one I feel the most sorry for is McGinnis. A classy guy that has had to coach a poorly-talented bunch. I wish he could take Boldin and end up somewhere nice.

Al may be more upset with the coupd'etat that Woodson and a few other players have attempted. If he fires Callahan now he admits he made a huge mistake "Trading" Chucky. If he backs Callahan and stands up to the malcontents he'll send a stong message that the players won't run this club. He likely was not going to sign Woodson anyway and Tim Brown is at the end of his career.

Don't be suprise if Management sends a message in this case.

I had heard that given all the factors that D. Green would be the 'perfect fit' for the Raiders.

Is any coach the perfect fit w/ Al in control????

It certainly is. I just read a conversation with Tim Brown. You must check this out, and tell me what you think of Tim Brown becoming a Dallas Cowboy next season...

(Regarding the Raiders punching Callahan in the locker room...)
Brown: It got that bad. You were afraid that somebody was going to take a shot at him because you thought that he was provoking guys to almost do something of that nature. Some of the things that he would say that were just so outrageous. I even had a couple of guys say, "Tim, if you promise me that you can take care of me, I'll take that shot."

Dennis Green is interviewing today. I would take either Green or Fassel at this point since they seem to be better than any of the other names that have been mentioned lately. Besides, Al Davis and Green are friends anyway, so there wouldn't be the "Will he be able to get along with Al?" issue. The Raiders offense would come back strong next season if Green is hired.

The Raiders cleaned house this year, that for sure. Top it off with cutting Tim Brown. Wow. Overall, I approve. I'm still rooting for Ty Wheatley to get the most snaps at RB.

I see Jerry Porter geing a top Receiver this season. And Tyrone Wheatley to push 1000 yds. Jerry Rice will still be another guy to keep eyes on, he still an all-time great. And Doug Gabriel will come along
